11885: Where's My Refund? Where's My Amendment?

IRS Info/Alerts

How do I check the status of my 1040 return or 1040-X form?

General processing guidelines can be found here: https://www.irs.gov/help/processing-status-for-tax-forms

1040 Refund:

Publication 2043 states that Where's My Refund? provides an actual personalized refund date as soon as the IRS processes your tax return and approves your refund. The website is updated no more than once every 24 hours, usually over night.

Note that due to requirements under the PATH act, refunds for returns with Earned Income Tax Credit (EIC) or the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) are not processed or issued until mid-February each year. If a return is filed before the middle of February, it will still be acknowledged, but refunds will be held. Note that the Where's My Refund page for these returns will not be updated until after February 15th. See the IRS' Refund Timing for more information.

Questions about the status of the refund or assistance with using the website should be directed to the IRS.

1040-X Amended Return:

The IRS website Where's My Amended Return provides the status of a Form 1040-X filed for the current year and up to three prior years.
