14619: GA - Change in Direct Deposit Policy

Georgia

A taxpayer requested for their Georgia refund to be direct deposited, but they received a check in the mail instead. Why?

Any taxpayer who is filing a GA return for the first time, or who has not filed a GA return in five or more years, will not be able to receive their refund via direct deposit. The GA DOR will automatically issue a paper check to these individuals, even when direct deposit information is included on their return.

See "Direct Deposit Option" on page 13 of the IT-511 Individual Income Tax Booklet.
