11312: 1040 - Dependent Date of Death

1040 Individual

Where do I enter a date of death (DOD) for a dependent child?

A date of death is not required for a dependent, but can be entered on the dependent's screen.

A child is considered to have lived with you for all of a tax year if both:

  • the child was born or died in the tax year, and
  • your home was the child's home for the entire time he or she was alive.

See the 1040 Instructions for details. In Drake Tax, enter 12 as the number of Months in home on screen 2, Dependents, even if the dependent was born or died during the year and was not alive for the full 12 months.
