11963: ID - Retirement Benefits Deduction Not Flowing

Idaho

In an individual return, a distribution entered on a 99R screen from a qualified pension should flow to section C of the ID 39R, however, it does not. Why?

Only the following are qualified retirement benefits:

  • Civil Service Employees
  • Idaho Firefighters
  • Police Officers of an Idaho city
  • Service Members

The deductible amount will flow from the federal 99R screen when the Pension Type is marked as one of the following:

  • S  - State Government (also for qualifying city/county retirement)
  • M - Military
  • C - Civil Service Administration (CSA) Plan
  • Z - City Government

Form Idaho 39R, Part C, Line 5 Qualified Retirement Benefits requires the Simplified Method Worksheet IDWK_SGR to be completed in order for the correct amount to be carried. In order to complete this worksheet, go to the federal 99R screen > Special Tax Treatments tab. Complete the section Simplified General Rule Worksheet. The taxable amount figured on Line 9 of IDWK_SGR will flow to ID39R, Part C, Line 5.

In Drake17 and prior, the amount flows to the worksheet IDWK_PEN, and then to the sections B and C of the 39R or section B of the 39NR after an applicable entry is made on the 99R screen.

Part year residents who need to adjust the pension deduction on 39NR can make the adjustment on line 22e of ID screen 5.
