Illinois

Illinois Property Tax Credit

Illinois requires submission of additional information before allowing the Illinois Property Tax Credit. You will need the actual property tax statement from your clients in order to complete the PTC screen in the IL data entry under the Credits tab. If you omit this information, the property tax credit does not compute and the return produces an EF Message to alert you that the information is required. In this event, the property tax amount entered on the federal screen A will still flow to the Illinois Property Tax Credit form, but the form will remain incomplete.

EF Message 0631

IL EF Message 0631 states:

When Schedule ICR, Line 4a, IL Property Tax Credit is greater than zero, Schedule ICR, Line 4b, Property Index Number 1 must be present and contain at least one numeric character, 1 through 9. Must not contain all zeroes or all numbers of the same type.

Drake Tip:
There are several Federal forms and schedules that will allow Real Estate Taxes to flow through to the state. These include Form 8829, 1098, Schedule A, and Schedule E. If Real Estate Taxes from any of these are present then; if they are deductible on the IL return, enter the appropriate PIN number on Line 4b of the PTC screen, otherwise, Enter a zero on Line 4a of the PTC Screen.

Resolution:

Go to States > Illinois > Credits tab > PTC screen > Enter applicable entries.
