In a New Jersey individual return with earned income only from a K1P, a taxpayer qualifies for NJ EIC, but the return produces NJ EF Message 1017.
NJ EF Message 1017:
IF NJ EIC is present, then there must be NJ Source wages, business income, or Self-Employed partnership income.
Although a taxpayer can qualify for NJ EIC based solely on income from a Partnership K-1, the return cannot be e-filed without earned income from wage or Schedule C sources. The return must be paper-filed.
If the only NJ source income is from a partnership K-1, entered on the K1P screen, then the return must be paper-filed.
