14103: CA - EF Message 0243

California

I am getting a CA EF Message 0243 about the Form FTB 3506 - Child and Dependent Care Credit. How can I clear this message?

CA EF Message 0243 states:

3506 Record

There is an error with the Child and Dependent Care Expenses Credit
(Form FTB 3506). To claim this credit the following entries must
be present on the form FTB 3506:

  • Name of Care Provider (Field 0090)
  • Care Provider's Street Address (Field 0110)
  • Care Provider's City, State and Zip Code (Field 0120)
  • Care Provider's SSN/EIN (Field 0130)
  • Care Provider's Telephone Number (Field 0150)
  • Address Where Care Was Provided (Fields 0154, 0156)
  • Qualifying Person's First Name (Field 0250)
  • Qualifying Person's Last Name (Field 0260)
  • Qualifying Person's SSN (Field 0280) or Qualifying Person Died (Field 0285)
  • Qualifying Person's Date of Birth (Field 0290) or Disabled Indicator (Field 0295)

Drake Software Tip:

Review the CA 3506 Part II for the fields listed above. Complete information for missing fields. If all fields are blank, verify that the provider was located within CA (MUST have CA address).

NOTE:

  • If provider is individual, then BOTH first and last names MUST be provided.
  • Street Address may only contain alphanumerics and the special characters - hyphen, forward slash, and backward slash.
  • If provider is an individual, then both first and last name may only contain alpha characters.

If CA 3506 is unallowed, suppress on the CA 3506 screen by checking the "Suppress Form 3506" box.

This EF Message is caused by missing information on either the federal 2441 screen or screen 2 Dependents. The following information should be present:

2441 screen:

  • Name of Care Provider
  • Care Providers Street Address
  • Care Providers City, State and Zip code
  • Care Providers SSN/EIN
  • Care Providers Telephone number (in the State Information section)

Dependent Screen:

  • Qualifying person's First Name
  • Qualifying person's Last Name
  • Qualifying person's SSN
  • Qualifying person's Date of Birth or Disabled indicator

If the taxpayer does not qualify for the Child and Dependent Care credit, in CA data entry, go to Credits> 3506 Child Care Expenses and put an S in the S=Suppress/F=Force to Print field. This will suppress the Form FTB 3506 and eliminate any messages associated with it.
