14283: Drake16 – BILL Screen Enhancements

Fed Returns Generally

There have been several changes to the Client Adjustments screen to enhance the Drake16 program.

Some of the changes to the BILL screen include:

Location of the BILL screen:

The BILL - Client Adjustments screen has been moved to the General tab of data entry. 


Date Printed on Bill:

The ability to change the date printed on the client’s bill is now available by entering a new date on the BILL screen. By default, the software will use the current date as the date on the client bill. If a different date is desired (either in the past or future) it can be entered in the Date to be printed on bill override field. 


Billing Override Fields:

The override fields have been added to the top of the BILL screen for convenience. You can now override the bill parameters you set globally at Setup> Options> Billing, as well as overriding the placement of the optional custom paragraph that can be added to each bill. 


After-the-Fact Adjustments: 

You now have the ability to make an After-the-Fact adjustment to the client bill from the BILL screen. This adjustment will allow an additional fee or discount to be applied to the bill after all other adjustments have been applied and sales tax (if any) has been calculated.  


Setting Form Order to the Bill:

You can now customize the order that the forms are listed on your client's bill. To set the form order, go into the view mode of a return by clicking the View button from data entry. From the view mode, click the Setup button on the top toolbar and go down to Form Order. This screen allows you to click and drag the forms into any preferred order, click Save.  

Beginning in Drake16, you can now mark the new Bill option and choose to either manually set the form order or copy the existing form order from another set.


Select the package that you would like (1040, 1065...) and mark the Bill option at the top of the screen. Manually drag each form to the preferred location, a red dot will appear next to each form that has been relocated. When all changes have been made, click Save

Copy from Existing Set: 

An option to copy from an existing set is also available, this may be useful if you would like the bill order to be the same as the 1040 form order. To use this option, from the view mode, go to the Setup> Form Options window. From this window, select the package that you would like to edit (1040, 1065...) and click Copy on the right side. Select the set order you would like to copy, and then check the box next to the sets to which you would like the sets to duplicate. Click Copy. If you are satisfied with the order the bill set is now in, click Save. 


Automatic Invoice Numbering:

An optional invoice numbering system allows unique invoice numbers to be printed on your clients' bills. The Drake program automatically "increments" this number with each new return created. To set up this feature, take the following steps:

  1. From the main page of Drake, go to Setup> Firms, and select the current firm. Mark the Enable Automatic Invoice Numbering check box. 
  2. In the Starting Invoice # field, enter the first invoice number you would like to use. By default, the invoice numbering will start at 1. 
  3. Click Save and Exit


The automatic invoice numbering system will begin with the next return you create. You can override an invoice number with an entry in the Invoice Number field on screen 1 within the return. ​
