14550: GDI Print Method - No Test Page Printed (Drake16 and prior)

Printing Generally

I have tested my printer, and the print method is showing as GDI, but a test page will still not print when I click "Help Me Choose" in Printer Setup. What can I do?

A test page will not print when using print method GDI. The printer test page function under Setup > Printing > Printer Setup > (F8) Edit Printer Settings > Help Me Choose is only meant to help you determine whether to use the PCL or GDI Print Method.

When you click Help Me Choose and select Print Test Page in Step 2, the software attempts to use the PCL method to connect to your printer.

If that fails and you click either No, It does NOT match or Nothing printed on the Printer Test Assistant window in Step 4, the GDI Alternate Print Method will be used:

No further testing is needed under Setup > Printing > Printer Setup > (F8) tab. When you click No on the question above, you are returned to the Printer Setup window. Click Update, and then Save to save your settings.

To ensure that your printer is working properly with the GDI method selected, attempt to print pages from a return or go to Tools > Blank Forms and print any blank form.

Note: Starting in Drake17, GDI is the default print method for any printer selected under Setup > Printing > Printer Setup > F8 tab.
If your printer requires the PCL method, choose Laserjet for the Printer Type and check the box Use PCL when printing tax forms
