What are some of the requirements for the Homestead Credit and Renters Property Tax Credit?

 

The different screens needed to generate the credit can be found on the Minnesota Property Tax Refund tab in data entry. There are various factors that are used to determine whether or not a taxpayer qualifies for the credit. The following requirements are taken from the Minnesota M1PR Instructions.

Regular Property Tax Refund Income Requirements

Special Property Tax Refund Requirements for Homeowners

If you are a homeowner you may also be eligible for a special property tax refund. This refund has no income limit and the maximum refund is $2,500. You may qualify if all of the following conditions are met:

  • You lived in your home on January 2, 2022 and January 2, 2023
  • Your net property tax on your homestead increased by more than 6% from 2022 to 2023
  • The increase was at least $100
