15339: States Generally - Consent to Disclosure Note

State Returns Generally

Why am I receiving a note about disclosure of information on this individual state return?

The note you are referring to states:

By using a computer system and software to prepare and transmit my client's return electronically, I consent to the disclosure of all information pertaining to my use of the system and software to create my client's return and to the electronic transmission of my client's tax return to the [DOR], as applicable by law.

This note appears on individual state returns as required by state guidelines for tax software providers. The language is required to be included in electronic filing software and must be displayed even if the return in question is being paper-filed (since it was created electronically). There is no need to mark your consent anywhere in data entry. By using the computer system and software, you are consenting to this disclosure to the state DOR as applicable or required by law. This note cannot be removed from the returns on which it appears and it does not prevent e-filing.
