16108: E-filing Reject - IND-158

Rejects + EF Messages

I received e-filing reject IND-158. How can I correct this reject?

E-file Reject IND-158 reads:

If 'EarnedIncomeCreditAmt' in the return has a non-zero value and Schedule EIC (Form 1040) is not present, then the Primary or Spouse must be at least 25 but less than 65 years old.

If you receive this reject, confirm the following information:

  • Taxpayer's Name and social security number (SSN) match what is reported on the Social Security card.
  • Taxpayer's Date of Birth (DOB) is accurate.
  • Spouse's Name and social security number (SSN) match what is reported on the Social Security card.
  • Spouse's Date of Birth (DOB) is accurate.

If any changes are needed for the taxpayer or spouse, they can be made within data entry of the return on Screen 1 - Name and Address

If the SSNs and dates of birth are accurate, there may be an error in the Social Security Administration's (SSA) records. To correct any errors that may be present, the taxpayer can contact the SSA at 1-800-772-1213. Generally, the return will need to be paper filed.
