IRS Faxing Service Ends June 28

In an ongoing effort to safeguard taxpayer transcripts, the IRS will end its faxing service for individual and business tax transcripts on June 28, 2019, and end its third-party mailing options from the Form 4506 series on July 1, 2019. Alternatives to faxing and mailing are available for tax professionals needing to obtain tax transcripts for tax preparation or representation. These alternatives will be reviewed in an IRS webinar on June 19 at 2:00 PM Eastern time. Click Tax Transcripts: Alternatives to Faxing and Third-Party Mailing to register. New Scams Identified by IRS

The IRS has asked preparers and taxpayers to be on the alert for two new phishing and email scams, which are variations of previous tax-related scams. One involves Social Security numbers related to tax issues and another threatens people with a tax bill from a fictional federal agency. See Taxing Subjects article, New Scams Identified by IRS, for more information on how to protect yourself and your clients against these scams.
