16347: State W-2 Upload Rejected - Missing File Name Extension (DAS)

File name extensions that are required by states are programmed into DAS.  If your computer is set up to not show file extensions, however, the .txt and .csv extensions are not available and a state file that requires an extension may be rejected.

To display all file name extensions, follow the instructions below for your Windows operating system.

Windows 10:

1. Go to the Start menu and select Settings.
2. Select the For Developers on the bottom left.
3. Scroll down to the File Explorer section and make sure Change Settings to Show File Extension is checked and then click Show Settings to the right.
4. Clear the selection Hide extensions for known file types.
5. Select Apply and then OK.

 Windows 8:

(Mouse instructions only)

1. Move your cursor from the center of the screen to the upper-right corner to display the menu icons, and then move the cursor down and select Search. Enter Control Panel in the Apps search field.  Select Control Panel from the Apps Results list, and Control Panel opens.
2. In Control Panel, select to View by either Control Panel Home or Icons (large or small)
   • If in Control Panel Home view, select Appearance and Personalization and open Folder Options.
   • If in Icons view, open Folder Options.
3. In Folder Options, select the View tab.
4. Clear the selection Hide extensions for known file types.
5. Select OK.

Windows 7:

1. Select Start, then select Control Panel.
2. Select to View by either Category or Icons (large or small).
   • If in Category view, select Appearance and Personalization and open Folder Options.
   • If in Icons view, open Folder Options.
3. In Folder Options, select the View tab.
4. Clear the selection Hide extensions for known file types.
5. Select OK.
