16407: KS - Filing the Quarterly Wage Report (DAS)

Kansas

Drake Accounting®: How do I create and file the Kansas K-CNS 100?

For filing to the Kansas Department of Labor (DOL), DAS produces:

  • A PDF copy of the Form K-CNS 100, Quarterly Wage Report & Unemployment Tax Return, and Form K-CNS 101, Continuation Sheet - Quarterly Wage Report & Unemployment Tax Return.
  • A .txt file for e-file.

Note: As of July 1, 2011, all employers with 50 or more employees, or third-party administrators with 50 or more client employees, must electronically file all Quarterly Wage Reports and contribution returns and make any quarterly tax payments online.

See Related Links below for required setup information before creating the state wage report.

 To prepare the K-CNS 100:

  • Select the Employees or On the Fly menu, then select State Tax & Wage Forms.
  • Make sure KS is selected, then select K-CNS 100 K-CNS 101 from the Forms droplist.
  • Select the applicable quarter.
  • Review the form and make any necessary entries or edits.
  • Make sure the e-File checkbox is marked (if e-filing), then select Save/Print.

Save/Print creates a PDF copy of the form that can be printed and paper-filed.  If e-File was marked, a .txt file for upload to the Kansas Employer Portal is also created.

To e-file:

  • Log in to the Kansas Employer Portal.
  • Follow the menu options to upload the wage file.
  • The file for upload can be found by browsing to the drive where DAS is installed > DrakeAccounting20YY > DAS20YYData > Clients > client code > EFile > KS > KSKCNS100KCNS101 (DrakeAccounting20YY > Clients > client code > EFile > KS > KSKCNS100KCNS101 in DAS20 and prior) and selecting the file named KSKCNS100KCNS101_YYYY-MM-DD_HR_MIN_SEC.txt (where YYYY-MM-DD_HR_MIN_SEC is the date and time of file creation).

For more information on how to file the Quarterly Wage Report, see How to File Unemployment Taxes Online.
