Client

Drake Accounting®: What are different types of backups listed for each client when I look in the Restore Clients window?

Drake Accounting® will back up data when performing certain functions, such as before performing a bank reconciliation process or when deleting a client file.  Below are descriptions of the different backup types that may be seen in the Restore Clients window (Client > Restore).

Type of Backup  Description
Automatic  Drake Accounting® will backup the current client information to the default backup folder at designated times
Start of Session  The active client's information will backup when Drake Accounting® launches.  Additionally, when switching clients, the newly opened client's information will be backed up.
End of Session  The active client's information will backup when exiting Drake Accounting®. Additionally, when switching clients, the client you are closing will be backed up.
Manual  The active client's information will backup when pressing the Backup Client button on the Client Selector or Alternative View Desktop.
Update Prior Year  When updating from prior Drake Accounting® software, a backup of client information generates before beginning the process.
Posting  When posting transactions, a backup is created of the client information before the process starts.
Bank Reconciliation  When doing a Bank Reconciliation, a backup is created of the client information before the process starts.
Year End Close  When doing a Year End Close, a backup is created of the client information before the process starts.
Restore Point  Refers to the last restoration of a backup.
User Deleted  This backup refers to the client information saved when the end-user deleted the client.
Portals  A backup created when syncing to the Portal.

If you hover your pointer over the backup type (e.g., Start of Session, Update Prior Year, User Deleted, etc.), a brief tooltip will display to describe the action.
