16994: OH - RITA - EF Message 0343

Ohio

How do I clear EF Message 0343?

Ohio EF Message 0343 reads as follows:

MISSING OR INVALID DATE ENTRY: An invalid "Beginning" or "Ending" date has been entered under "Dates of employment" on federal screen W2. A valid date entry must be eight numerals, be within the current tax year, and the "Ending" date cannot be earlier than the "Beginning" date. If the "Beginning" or "Ending" date is entered, both must be entered. Return to federal screen W2 and correct your data entry.

This  produces when there is a missing or invalid date entered on the Ohio tab of the federal W2 screen. For each locality that is listed on the W-2 or Additional Entries tabs, you must enter a date for Beginning and Ending on the Ohio tab.

The program automatically uses 01/01/YY if no entry is made in those fields, but ONLY when all of the following are true:
 - The RITA return has a residency status of "Full year"
 - No "Date of move" entry has been made on screen RITA
 - There is only one row of state or locality data on this screen W2

In all other situations, a date must be manually entered.

Note: If there is an entry for a city outside Ohio, make sure to enter the tax rate for that city in the Non-Ohio Tax Rate field.
