17501: DC - Rejects - Business Registration Required

District of Columbia

How do I resolve these rejects for a DC corporate, partnership, or s-corp return regarding registering?

In order to file taxes with the DC Office of Tax and Revenue, a business must first register with DC. The following reject codes may be issued when a return, extension, or estimate is filed without a corresponding account with the DC OTR. The precise reject code varies depending on the type of return being filed as well as the business type:

  • Extension Reject Codes
    • DCFR120-0002
    • DCFR165-0002
    • DCFR130-0002
  • Estimate Reject Codes
    • DCD20ES-0002
    • DCD30ES-0002
    • DCD65ES-0002
  • Return Reject Codes
    • DCD20-0045
    • DCD30-0036
    • DCD65-0010

The text of the reject is as follows:

Filer is not registered with DC for this tax type. You must complete New Business Registration (FR-500) on https://mytax.dc.gov/ prior to filing to open an appropriate account

The business taxpayer will need to complete the online new business registration form, FR-500, to open an account within the District of Columbia. The process is available at https://mytax.dc.gov/ by clicking Register a New Business. After registration has been completed, and the account opened, the return, estimate, or extension can be re-transmitted to the state of DC.
