Renew your Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN)

2023 PTIN renewal is underway and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is urging all tax professionals to renew online at IRS.gov/taxpros. All current PTINs will expire on December 31, 2022, and the non-refundable fee to renew or obtain a PTIN is $30.75.

1040 MeF Production Shutdown

The IRS will begin conducting its annual maintenance period (called a "blackout") during which certain types of returns are not accepted electronically. This is also referred to as the e-filing shutdown or cutover schedule. The individual shutdown for the tax year 2021 begins on Saturday, November 26, 2022. Submission transmission ends at 11:59 p.m. EST and prevents e-filing of all individual 1040 returns. The business return shutdown for the tax year 2021 has not yet been announced.
