State Returns - Blank Estimated Tax Vouchers Not Allowed

If I am trying to print state estimated tax vouchers with no amount, why is it that I do not see them in View Mode of the return?

This is occurring because many states now use scannable forms, they do not allow blank estimated tax vouchers to be printed. In order to produce estimated tax vouchers, an amount to be paid must be shown (either calculated or directly entered). This can be done by completing the ES Estimated Taxes screen. If an ES code is selected, the software will automatically calculate the estimated payment based on information on the return.

If a specific amount is desired, this can be entered manually for each voucher on the ES screen. Note that you can generate vouchers by directly entering information on the ES screen even if there is no voucher being calculated automatically. If you have used a state-specific Estimate Tax Worksheet screen, you may need to delete the screen (CTRL + D) before the federal ES screen entries will be carried to the voucher in view.

The following states do not allow blank estimated tax vouchers to be printed:

  • California
