1040-ES - 2020 First Quarter Estimated Tax Voucher

Why does my first quarter ES voucher say "Due April 15, 2020" when the deadline was extended?

Per IRS guidance, the pre-printed due date on estimated payment voucher 1 will remain April 15, 2020. The current 1040-ES voucher form is valid as produced since the IRS notices postponed the due date, but did not change the due date. See Related Links below for more information about the changes.

Drake Tax will produce the Form 1040-ES April voucher as follows:

There is no need to manually write July 15, 2020 as the due date.

Important: IRS Notice IR-2020-66, released on April 9, 2020, extended the payment deadline for the second quarter ES voucher as well.

If you are arranging payment through Drake19, on the PMT screen ensure that you have entered the account #1 information. For the first quarter, you must make a selection in the Requested Payment Date drop list of July 15 (7). If the taxpayer wishes to pay by April 15, they must make arrangements to pay outside the software as the IRS will reject any estimate set for April 15th at this time if transmitted electronically (Reject FPYMT). For the second quarter, you must make a selection in the Requested Payment Date drop list of either June 15 (6) or July 15 (7). See Related Links below for more details on arranging payments through Drake Tax.

Estimated Tax Payments must be set up and e-filed with the 1040. If the return has already been e-filed and accepted, you can make ES payments through 1040paytax.com or IRS.gov Payment Options center
