States Generally - CARES Act Conformity and Decoupling

The CARES Act modified federal tax law, however, some states have decided to not conform to certain aspects of the CARES Act. State EF messages will produce preventing e-file if the state has decided to decouple from the federal guidelines and the program has not been modified to allow for those differences. Drake Tax will be updated to conform to all state guidelines as quickly as possible. Below is a list of the states and message numbers that you may see. There is an option included to suppress* the EF message(s) and allow e-filing, however, this may require you to amend the state return once all decoupling items are finalized.

The state of __ has not conformed to certain federal changes related to the CARES Act. The software is automatically generating messages on returns that are affected by these provisions. These are related to NOL carryback and limitations, business interest expense limitations, limitations on business losses, and bonus depreciation on Qualified Improvement Property. 

These returns will require adjustments to correctly account for these differences in federal AGI. The software will be updated at a later date once guidance has been received from the state on how these changes should be accounted for/once these changes have been put in place. Checking this box will suppress these messages and indicates that the preparer chooses to file the return as is and has made any adjustments necessary at the time of filing.
