Setup and Applying Signatures

The signature process within Rightworks is the same as from the local installation of Drake Tax and Drake Accounting.

Troubleshooting

Scriptel - Preparer's Signature Rubber Stamp

If using a Scriptel Signature pad, the rubber stamp option is not able to be set up directly within Drake Tax on Rightworks. Please contact Drake Support at (828) 349-5556 for more information.

Enable the Plug and Play Devices Setting

In order for Rightworks to recognize your signature pad, ensure that the remote session has access to those devices. This setting is enabled by default when you install the Rightworks connection via the setup wizard, but should be checked if you experience any issues with using your device. To enable this setting, do the following:

  1. Log off of your Rightworks Desktop by double clicking on the logoff icon.
    • Do not simply close the remote session window. Always use the log off icon to ensure that you have properly ended your session. You can also right click on the Start menu in the Rightworks Desktop and choose sign out.
  2. Right click on the Rightworks icon on your local desktop.
  3. Select Show More Options (Windows 11).
  4. Choose Edit.
  5. Go to the Local Resources tab.
  6. Under Local devices and resources, click More.
  7. Check the boxes:
    • Ports
    • Other supported Plug and Play (PnP) devices
  8. Click OK.
  9. Click on the General tab.
  10. Click Save

No Compatible Signature Device Detected

If you get a pop-up message that says "No Compatible Signature Device Detected":

  • Verify that that the signature pad is connected to your computer.
  • Ensure that the correct options have been chosen based on the pad that you are using (step 8 below).
  • Verify that you are using a supported Scriptel or Topaz signature pad.
  • If using a Scriptel pad, verify that you have an active ScripTouch Remote license with Scriptel and have downloaded the corresponding driver to your computer.

COM Ports

The Topaz BSB interface signature pads recommended for desktop Drake Software installations are plug-and-play, with installation handled by your operating system. The signature pad must be installed - connected to your computer - to identify the COM port it uses. After the signature pad is installed:

  1. Open the Device Manager via Control Panel on your Windows machine. In Windows 10, you can access the Device Manager by typing device manager in the Search field on the Windows toolbar, selecting Device Manager from the search list and pressing Enter.
  2. In Device Manager, locate Ports (COM & LPT). It has Communications Port listed with a COM port number at the end. Note the COM number:

If more than one communications port is displayed, contact Drake Support, (828) 349-5556, for assistance in determining which COM port the signature pad uses.
  3. Close Device Manager and open Drake Software in Rightworks.
  4. At Setup > Printing > E-Signature Setup, double click on the preparer name to set up the signature. Follow the prompts to continue.
  5. If the signature pad is not recognized, you may get a pop-up message that says "No Compatible Signature Device Detected."
  6. Check to make sure that the signature pad is connected to your computer, then click OK.
  7. Click Setup. The Sign Options window opens.

  1. Ensure that the correct options have been chosen based on the pad that you are using:
