EF Message 0460

The message reads:

REVIEW RESIDENCY DATES: When the taxpayer is qualifying under the Bona Fide Residence Test for Form 2555, the following must be true on screen 2555 (Foreign Income Exclusion) ("2555 - Part 2" tab):
- If the "Date bona fide residence ended" is either December 31, $$CY, or "CONTINUE," the "Date bona fide residence began" must be either January 1, $$CY, or a date prior to tax year $$CY.
- If the "Date bona fide residence ended" is prior to December 31, $$CY, the "Date bona fide residence began" must be either January 1, $$PY, or a date prior to tax year $$PY.

To clear the message, go to Foreign tab > 2555 screen in data entry and click the 2555 - Part 2 tab. Review the Date bona fide residence ended entry. To meet the Bona Fide Resident Test, the taxpayer must be a “…resident of a foreign country or countries for an uninterrupted period that includes an entire tax year.”

• If the end date is December 31st of the current year or CONTINUE, the Date bona fide residence began must be January 1st of the current year or earlier.
• If the end date is before​ December 31st of the current year, then Date bona fide residence began must be January 1st of the previous year or earlier.
