A taxpayer requested for their Georgia refund to be direct deposited, but they received a check in the mail instead. Why?
Beginning in tax year 2016, the GA DOR has decided to change their policy regarding direct deposit of tax refunds for GA filers. Any taxpayer who is filing a GA return for the first time, or who has not filed a GA return in five or more years, will not be able to receive their refund via direct deposit. The GA DOR will automatically issue a paper check to these individuals, even when direct deposit information is included on their return.
See the "Where's My Refund?" section of the IT-511 Individual Income Tax Booklet.
