One of the following scenarios exist. Follow the steps to resolve the EF Messages depending on whether or not the return should be filed on a fiscal year. If it is a fiscal year return, you may need to use a different year of Drake Tax to prepare it.

If the fiduciary does not file on a fiscal year, go to screen 1 and remove the fiscal year beginning and ending dates. Drake Tax assumes a calendar year, unless it is otherwise indicated in the fiscal year fields on screen 1.

If the fiduciary is filed on a fiscal year, verify that the fiscal year start or end date is correct.

Note  The IRS considers an ending month of 12 to be a calendar year and the dates should be removed from the fiscal year fields.

Verify that you are using the correct year of Drake Tax to file the fiscal year return (EF Messages 0193 and 0194 generate when the dates are not correct for the year of Drake Tax being used). For example, a return using a fiscal year beginning in 2023and ending in 2024must be filed from Drake Tax 2023.
