EF Message 1217 or 0120

EF Message 1217 (1040 return) and EF Message 0120 (business return) are caused by a missing or invalid State ID or corporate or LLET account number. To clear either message, you will need to enter a valid State ID Number or LLET Account Number, as applicable. The number format varies depending on the tax year (see below for details) and form type to which it applies.

LLET Account Number

The Kentucky Limited Liability Entity Tax (LLET) account numbers must be entered for a Limited Liability Entity.

  • In a 1040 return, the account number is entered on theKY > SMLLC tab on the 725 and LTC screens.

  • In a 1065 return, the account number is entered on KY > screen 1 and LLET.

    • The screen 1 field overrides the LLET Account ID Number entered on the States tab > screen 2 > State ID Number field.

  • In an 1120 return, the account number is entered on KY > screen 1 and KY > screen LLET

  • In an 1120-S return, the account number is entered on KY > screens 1 and PTET.

Tip  If the account number is not known, you can contact the KY Department of Revenue at (502) 564-8139 for assistance in retrieving the number.

State ID Numbers for Income Source Documents

The Kentucky State ID number on all income source documents (i.e., Forms W-2, 1099, etc.) must contain exactly 9 digits. For example, 123456 should be entered as 000123456.

Tip  If there is no payer State ID number on the income source document, enter 000000000. It must be a string of nine zeros (0) to clear this message.

Check your entries for the following forms (1040 return):

  • Form W-2

  • Form W-2G

  • Forms 1099 (i.e., 1099-R, 1099-MISC, 1099-NEC, 1099-DIV, etc.)

  • Form 1099-K (entered on the 99K screen)

Note  Screen 99K is a state-only screen that is located at the bottom on the States tab of data entry.
