Drake Tax – State Refunds and Bank Products

Most Drake Software bank product providers offer bank products where there is either a small federal refund or a zero federal refund (or balance due) so long as all of the following conditions are met:
-
The state refund is enough to cover all bank and preparer fees.
-
The federal and state returns are transmitted together.
-
The type of bank product is a Refund Transfer (RT).
This type of bank product is sometimes referred to as a "state only" bank product; however, the federal and state returns must still be transmitted together for the bank product to be eligible. Return Note 531 explains this situation on applicable returns.
Caution A "state only" product cannot be processed when selecting an Advance product (with or without RT) or when processing the refund to a Prepaid Card.
See the Bank Product Information sheet (EPS_INFO, RA_INFO, TPG_INFO, RF_INFO, RB_INFO) to review the summary of fees. When the bank processes the refunds, the fees will be taken out as follows:
If... | Then... |
---|---|
The federal refund is greater than the total fees | All fees are taken out of the federal refund (regular bank product). |
The federal refund is less than total fees | Fees are taken out of the federal refund first, and any remaining fees are taken from state bank products.* |
The federal return has a zero refund or a balance due | Fees are deducted from the state refunds. |
Note *If the state refund is processed before the federal refund, all fees will be taken out of the state refund, and the remainder of the state refund will be disbursed. When the federal refund is received by the bank, it will be disbursed through the chosen disbursement method.
