Drake Tax - 1040: Dual Status Alien Return

Overview

Currently, Drake Tax does not directly support the creation of a dual status alien return in the software. The 1040 and 1040-NR returns would have to be manually created, as appropriate, and then paper-filed. To do so, you would:

  1. Complete the 1040 return and prepare it for paper-filing.

  2. Make an archive of the 1040 return.

    • Open the return and go to View/Print mode.

    • Click the Documents button and select Archive Client Return from the drop menu.

    • Enter a description (such as 1040) and click OK.

    • Click OK again to exit the confirmation screen.

  3. Then complete the return as a 1040-NR (see Drake Tax - 1040-NR: Creation and e-Filing for details).

    • You can also make an archive of the 1040-NR by following the steps above (recommended).

  4. Paper-file both returns as indicated in Publication 519.
