Starting with Drake 2026, Screen 1 contains a required data entry field that asks whether the taxpayer is a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or an alien lawfully authorized to work in the United States at the time of filing.
If this field is left blank, EF Message 5062 generates and prevents e-file until an applicable entry is made on screen 1. To clear this EF Message, return to Screen 1 and answer the required question, “Are you a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or an alien lawfully authorized to work in the United States at the time of filing?” for the taxpayer. For Married Filing Jointly (MFJ) returns, answer the question for both the taxpayer and spouse.
