How to resolve EF Message 5758

EF Message occurs when question 7a on screen 8867 is answered 'Yes,' but no Form 8862 has been entered into the return.

To resolve the message:

• If Form 8862 is unnecessary, uncheck the 'Yes" box on line 7a, and leave the question blank,

• If Form 8862 is required, open screen 8862, and complete the necessary information.

The taxpayer may be required to include Form 8862 Information to Claim Earned Income Credit after Disallowance on the next tax return in order to qualify for EIC when the IRS had previously denied or reduced the taxpayer's EIC claim for any other reason than a math or clerical error.
