Generally, EF Message 0162 refers to the Preparer’s Firm EIN, rather than the EIN of the return. Usually, the problem is caused by a Social Security Number having been entered for the Firm EIN. To correct it, go to Setup > Firms, select the firm, click Edit Firm, enter the firm’s EIN in the Federal EIN field on the Settings tab, and click Save. Open and calculate the return to clear the message.
