Non-resident

If the Resident state drop list is marked as PY on federal screen 1 (Name and Address) for another state return, but the taxpayer is a full year Montana nonresident, go to Montana screen 1 (General Information) and check the box Force Residency Status 5b - Nonresident full year to clear this message. This message generates in order to prevent possible Montana parse error for missing part-year resident information in Montana screen 1.

Part-Year Resident

If a taxpayer is a Montana part-year resident, then there is a requirement to have the following fields filled out on Montana screen 1:

• Date of Residency Change

• State Moved To

• State Moved From
