California EF Message 0123 indicates that there is an error with the Form W-2 information included in the return. To resolve this message, review each screen W2 included in the return and verify that the following information is complete and valid:

• Reporting agent or employer name

• Employer address

• Employer city, state, and ZIP code

• Employee name

• Employee address

• Employee city, state, and ZIP code

• Wages

This can be caused by either employer or employee information.

Employer Address

A common cause of this message is the employer’s street address from box c of Form W-2 being entered on the wrong line of screen W2. Verify that the employer’s street address is entered on the third address line. Do not enter it on the second line labeled In care of/address continuation line.

To correct the address:

1. Open screen W2.

2. Remove the employer’s street address from the In care of/address continuation line.

3. Enter the street address on the line below it.

4. Recalculate the return.

Foreign Address Exception

• The employer ZIP code can be blank when a period (.) is entered as the employer state.

• The employee ZIP code can be blank when a period (.) is entered as the employee state.
